What this calculator does
Life insurance pricing depends on facts a website cannot know: your health history, medications, build, family history, and how a particular carrier weighs them. Anyone showing you a firm price before underwriting is guessing.
So this tool is explicit about its source. When the site has real carrier rate data loaded for your product, age and state, it shows those figures. When it does not, it says so and offers a review rather than inventing a number.
How the maths works
- Your product, age, state, tobacco status and coverage amount are matched against loaded carrier rate tables.
- Rates are matched exactly — never interpolated between ages or coverage amounts, because a price at 45 says nothing reliable about 46.
- If a match is found, the figures shown are those carrier rates.
- If no rate data covers your request, nothing is estimated in its place — you are told live quoting is unavailable.
- Whatever is shown, actual premiums are set by the carrier after underwriting.
A worked example
A figure here is only ever labelled Estimated Quotes when it comes from loaded carrier rate data. Anything else is labelled Estimated Planning Range and is not a price any insurer has offered.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does it say quoting is unavailable?
- Because no carrier rate data has been loaded for that product, age and state. This site will not manufacture a premium to fill the gap — a made-up figure would be worse than no figure, because you might plan around it.
- Is this a real quote?
- Only where it says "Estimated Quotes", and even then it is an indication from rate data, not a binding offer. A binding price comes after an application and underwriting. Anything labelled "Estimated Planning Range" is illustrative and is not offered by any insurer.
- Why do you need my state?
- Insurance is regulated state by state. Products, rates and availability differ, and a rate valid in one state may not exist in another.
- Why does tobacco use matter so much?
- It is one of the largest single factors in life insurance pricing. Carriers typically define it more broadly than cigarettes alone, so answer according to what your application will say.
- Will my details be shared?
- Nothing on this page is submitted anywhere. The figures are worked out from data already loaded on this site. Sharing your contact details is a separate, explicit step.
Actual premiums depend on carrier underwriting, state availability, health history, medications, tobacco status, build, and other factors. No figure shown here is a binding offer of insurance.
This site does not present invented premiums. Where legitimate rate data is unavailable, it says so rather than estimating a price.
